Tarantella, the first Swan, has returned to the water 59 years after her maiden launch in 1967. Tarantella, a Swan 36 designed by Sparkman & Stephens, has returned to the sea following a complete refit carried out in Pietarsaari, Finland.
“I am proud to be here today and to see the first yacht to bear the wonderful name Swan,” stated Massimo Perotti, President of the Sanlorenzo Group, who was present at the launch. “I can truly feel what makes the world of Swan so special: the emotion, the deep connection with the sea and the strength of an authentic legacy. I am also proud to see our community continue to grow. I would like to thank the refit team, all the partners who have supported this project, the yacht clubs and everyone who has helped turn this brand into a living legend.”
Throughout 2026, Tarantella will take part in some of the world’s most prestigious sailing events. After leaving Pietarsaari, she will head to the Nautor Swan Global Service base in Badalona, Spain, where, in early September, the founder of Nautor Swan, Pekka Koskenkylä, will sail aboard the yacht.
From Badalona, Tarantella then will head to Porto Cervo for the Rolex Swan Cup, where she will lead a record fleet of over 130 Swans – a figure that exceeds the number of participants recorded during the brand’s 50th anniversary. The event will be one of the largest single-brand gatherings in the history of sailing. From Porto Cervo, Tarantella will continue on to Saint-Tropez and its Voiles regatta.
Tarantella’s restoration and sailing programme has been made possible thanks to the support of numerous technical partners, including North Sails – North Sails Italy, Navico Group – B&G, Mastervolt, Universe Yachting, Essma, Seldén, Gottifredi & Maffioli – Velamania, AXXON, Gori, Fixafell, Sail Tech & Spinlock, Cabin Denmark – Broxe GmbH & Co. KG, Olcese Ricci, Harken – Harken Italy, Kiwigrip – Scandinavian Teak Deck, TOVAB Wi-Bo Metal, Promarine, Autonautic Instrumental S.L. and Hella Marine.
