At over 3,000 miles in 55 days, the new raid Mission Naxos features Suzuki, Zar Formenti and the Club del Gommone (Milan), whose members/pilots will set off from Varazze to reach the Greek island of Naxos before returning to the Ligurian port, with arrival scheduled for 4 June.
Mission Naxos 2026, which set off on 11 April (pictured: the first crew departing from Varazze), was not conceived as a sporting challenge, but as a project brimming with significant educational, cultural and outreach value.
The expedition, aboard a Zar Formenti Naxos 23 powered by a Suzuki DF200AP, is divided into seven stages, each covering between 360 and 500 miles, involving a total of around 30 members of Milan’s Club del Gommone, and serves as a practical test to demonstrate the boat’s reliability, the crews’ organisation skills and operational continuity.
“Milan’s Club del Gommone raids represent a project that has evolved over time, progressively expanding its geographical scope and content,” stated Paolo Ilariuzzi, Director of the Motorcycle and Marine Division at Suzuki Italia. “We are talking about over 24,000 nautical miles covered since 2017, which will surpass 28,000 with this mission: a distance equivalent to one and a half times our planet’s equatorial circumference. A result that testifies to the reliability of our engines, as well as the educational value of the initiative, which has the ability to foster a culture of responsible and accessible seafaring.”
