What’s New at the 66th Genoa International Boat Show
The German shipyard Pioneer Yachts, founded by engineer and entrepreneur Mike Frank, is making its debut at the 66th Genoa International Boat Show with its PY60, a solar-electric catamaran measuring 18.30 metres in length and 8.98 metres in beam.
The PY60 was not designed as an adaptation of an existing catamaran but, from the outset, with the specific aim of generating and storing solar energy to power a solar-electric yacht that is reliable under real-world sailing conditions.
The PY60, launched last July and now on display at the 66th Genoa International Boat Show following a summer of sea trials, was designed by the naval architecture firm Cossutti & Ganz, led by Maurizio Cossutti and Alessandro Ganz, with interior design by Micheletti + Partners.
The PY60, which incorporates a series of solar panels, electric propulsion and diesel generators, offers approximately 250 square metres of living space spread over three levels.
The PY60 has a maximum speed of 11 knots and a cruising speed of 7.5 knots.
