Mission Naxos 2026 comes to a close with Suzuki and ZAR Formenti
After a 55-day journey covering over 3,300 miles across the Mediterranean, following the routes of ancient Magna Graecia, Mission Naxos 2026, the sailing expedition organised by Milan’s Club del Gommone (Inflatable Boat Club) in collaboration with Suzuki, has come to an end.
Setting off from Varazze on 11 April and concluding on 4 June, Mission Naxos 2026 saw 26 members of the Club, divided into seven crews, take turns at the helm of the ZAR Formenti Naxos 23 – a 6.80-metre-long boat powered by a Suzuki DF200AP – as they sailed across the Ligurian, Tyrrhenian, Ionian and Aegean Seas.
For years, Suzuki has been using the Milan Club del Gommone’s expeditions as genuine open-sea test beds, and the data collected during these long voyages constitute a valuable resource for verifying, in real-world conditions, the reliability, fuel consumption, durability and ease of use of Suzuki outboard motors, far beyond what can be simulated in traditional tests.
These are the expeditions that preceded Mission Naxos 2026:
2017, Solo Tour of Italy: 1,767 miles with the Suzuki DF40A – 2018, Gibraltar Raid: 2,400 miles with the Suzuki DF40A – 2019, Athens Raid: 2,918 miles with the Suzuki DF40A – 2021, Mediterranean 2021 – Castellorizo: 3,870 miles with the Suzuki DF140BG – 2022, European Raid: 2,900 miles with the Suzuki DF200AP – 2023, Clean Mediterranean: 2,600 miles with the Suzuki DF140B – 2024, Paris Olympics: 3,100 miles with the Suzuki DF300AP – 2025, Olympia–Castellorizo: 3,850 miles with the Suzuki DF300BMD.
With Mission Naxos, the total distance covered in the expeditions organised by the Milan Club del Gommone starting in 2017 to the present day exceeds 26,700 miles: more than a complete circumnavigation of the globe.
